| The Day of Silence is coming up, and while the official colors of the protest are red and black, I... don't own any red. So instead of buying a shirt or some silly thing like that, I'm getting my KNIT on! I bought the yarn (acrylic) at a fabric store while shopping for materials for my prom dress, and it is the softest stuff ever. I could use the skein as a pillow at night. Disclaimer: This is the third time I've knitted anything, ever. The last two things were just practice swatches. XD | |

| It's looking good, Geez, my school never got creative enough with the day of silence, we just taped the flyer on us or saftey pinned it to our purses, some wore duct tape over their mouths, but never kept it on all day. | |

My school, to put it bluntly, is insanely gay. We love ourselves some Day of Silence. I'll definitely post pictures from the event in April.

I'll definitely post pictures from the event in April. Please do! Our school has several supporters, and the gay community in my town is actually alot bigger than most think! When I was in high school on the DOS the teachers got to the point that at the begging of class they would say "Whoever is participating in the day of silence raise your hand so I know you are here!" I did have one teacher, who was so anti gay, and she looked at me and threatened to give me and F for the day if I did not speak in her class. I was the only one that period participaiting but the entire class stood up and answered for me in unison and then went on to say "Come on! She's made it all day! Don't be so disrespectful to her!" I almost cried when the class stood up for me (I am straight but have so many close friends who are gay, bi, lesbian, transgender.) that it made me so happy to see others so supportive. :0)

Your teacher, on the other hand... >< The Japanese teacher at my school was notorious for making DoS kids talk in her class, until last year, when my friend reported her to the administration for disrespecting the protest. She's pissed off about that, but now she has to let her students stay silent.

She's pissed off about that, but now she has to let her students stay silent. Yeah, she was not very well liked after that. I'm glad your school respects peaceful protests, ours get all mad and say that this is a learning enviroment, not a place for protesting. But so far we have done dos for about 5 years straight, and I learned this year they had a peaceful protest to bring back one of our beloved drama teachers that had gotten fired for supposedly touching a students leg. Made everyone so mad, and of course, according to the court, no he did not touch the kid inappropiatly, and they brought him back. He was my all time favorite teacher there!

| This is so awesome. And I love that you linked to the day of silence website. That's even more awesome. Right now my friends and I are dressing in the different colors of the rainbow and by next Friday we'll be out of colors and be wearing black for the day of silence. Thank you for sharing this, not only is it a totally cute scarf, but you're spreading the word of the day fo silence. You're the bomb. | |
